A cable-car and a high-speed chair-lift whisk skiers from Champéry village into the vast Portes du Soleil, one of the world's largest international ski areas. The Portes du Soleil includes 14 different ski resorts – 6 in Switzerland and 8 in France – with 197 lifts and 650 km of prepared slopes, not to mention a wide variety of snowparks and boarder cross runs. This is a winter sports paradise, with ice-climbing, snow-shoeing, paragliding, cross-country skiing and sledging runs to complete the offer. The village also has an indoor ice rink and a curling hall which are open all year round. The reknowned Pas de Chavanette ski slope, otherwise known as the Swiss Wall, is one of the steepest ski runs in the world. Although it is only a kilometre long, it plunges down nearly 400 metres, with gradients of up to 50 degrees!
